I was gonna post this for the SotW, but it didn't come out well enough IMO. I'd appreciate some constructive criticism on this and some suggestions for next time.

The only thing about this piece is the text and the way you illustrated the planet. The planet looks like you just added some grunge brushes over it. It doesn't quite look real, imo. Other than that everything else looks pretty cool.

Yeah. I should probably look up a planet tutorial.

I pretty much gave up on the text after realizing the planet was a wash.

I think you need to retexture the planet, decrease the visibility of the stars (they large amount of contrast is a little distracting. And loose the text, I personally think those sig is one of those that would better without text.

It's too blue. The star field needs more depth, have multiple layers, fiddle with opacity, kill the text and maybe introduce some warm colours from a sun or something?

It's interesting... I think how you did the stars is one of the best I've seen, but the planet, text and effects on the ship look out of place. I'd suggest looking at some tuts on planet techniques (as I recall Sunjo made a very nice tut on mAs, I'm not sure if its still there).

Stars are actually really easy to make once you know the technique. I'm using something sort of based off an old tut by... some guy... I should write a tut about it, crediting his influence of course.

EDIT: My technique's not really sufficiently different from his. Here's the link: Make a Realistic Star Field
